Definition: (noun) drug addict (also used to describe people who are addicted to less dangerous activities, such as shoe shopping)

Example: After seeing the hypodermic needles in the hallway, Jeff realized the building was full of junkies and decided not to rent the apartment.

Quote:

“I’m obsessed with Trading Spaces. I’m a big flea market junkie and that show inspires me.”
- Actress Rebecca Romijn-Stamos

Junkie isn’t the only drug-related word we use in everyday conversation. You can also be a shoe addict, a soccer fiend or a shopaholic. Heroin addicts call the injection of the drug a fix, but here at Slang City, we have to get our Tuesday night fix of frozen yogurt or we will go into withdrawal (the unpleasant condition of becoming free of drugs, or frozen yogurt).

To quit drugs (or any other addictive activity) all at once without using medicine (like a nicotine patch), is called quitting cold turkey. We have not considered this plan, because we do not have a problem. We know that we can stop eating frozen yogurt at any time. We just don’t feel like it.

By the way, if you haven’t seen Trading Spaces, it’s an addictive American (originally British) TV show about people who change places with their friends or neighbors to secretly redecorate rooms in each other's houses, sometimes badly. It cracks us up (makes us laugh) to hear the homeowners describing their romantic dream bedroom, unaware that it is being painted black as they speak.
